Butch Vig

Butch or Bryan David Vig was born on August 2, 1955 in Viroqua, Wisconsin (USA). He attended the University of Wisconsin to study film direction, where he met fellow student Steve Marker.

The pair of them stared in a number of bands and in 1983 eventually founded Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin. Vig has played in a number of bands before forming Garbage including Spooner, First Person (with Marker) & Firetown (with Erikson).

Butch came to serious fame when he produced some of the hottest bands of the 1990’s including The Smashing Pumpkins (Gish & Siamese Dream) and Sonic Youth (Dirty & Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star) to name just two, but it was his ground breaking work on Nirvana’s “Nevermind” which really made people look up. He has since go on to remix and produce some of the World biggest names on the planet including U2, Alanis Morissette, Nine Inch Nails, Korn, Foo Fighters and Muse.
